Culture, Ecology Part of Liberty Trail Mix
Published Aug 21, 2008

Want to see some interesting sites? Take a driving tour along the Liberty Trail in Liberty County.

The trail features many attractions related to history, culture and ecology, including the Melon Bluff Nature and Heritage Preserve. Melon Bluff, on Georgia’s coast, has 25 miles of grassy forest trails that are ideal for hiking, biking, picnics and riding. More than 300 species of birds make the trail a prime bird-watching locale.

Another interesting site along the Liberty Trail is Cay Creek Wetlands, which provide habitats for birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and insects. A boardwalk for pedestrians was recently added, and plans are in place for an interpretive center. For more on the trail, visit www.libertytrail.com.
